Kothari polybutene is often used in polymer modification processes.  Polypropylene random and impact copolymers modified with polybutenes can have

» Higher melt flow rates
» Greater elongation and
» Improved impact strengths
In filled and reinforced polypropylene, polybutene can be used to "wet” the fillers and aid processing.

In polypropylene homopolymer film applications, polybutene can improve

» Flexibility
» Tear resistance
» Gloss properties
» Clarity and
» Polybutene incorporation can improve tear strength by 100%.

In thermoplastic resins – KVIS Polybutenes can increase

» The impact strength
» Flexibility and
» Melt flow rate

Polybutenes plasticize polypropylene, polystyrene, ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer resins, ester gums, and polyterpene.

Polybutene can improve the melt flow in crystal polystyrene, better than mineral oil while maintaining higher strength and heat deflection temperature. Addition of Polybutene can improve the environmental stress crack resistance (ESCR) of high impact polystyrene (HIPS) to fats and oils.

The izod impact strength of acrylonitrile-butadiene-sytrene (ABS) resins can be increased by polyisobutytene, while maintaining heat deflection temperature and increasing melt flow rate.

The impact strength of ethylene-propylene diene monomer (EPDM)/polypropylene compounds can be increased by polybutene addition.
